We take a lot of pride in the Portland food scene. Our chefs, restaurants and collaborative pop-up dinners are all focused on quality, sustainability and creativity, so it comes as no surprise that our local food bloggers put forth the same amount of dedication and passion. We recently had the chance to chat with wildly popular food blogger, Lindsay Strannigan (the lovely co-organizer of the PDX Food Swap - look for the article tomorrow!), and can’t urge you enough to check out her site, Rosemarried.

Lindsay does a wonderful job of representing Portland by putting together innovative dishes that utilize the bounty of fresh ingredients from the Pacific Northwest. Her recipes have a way of being special, without all the fussiness. This laid-back, accessible approach to seasonal cooking has garnered her quite the following. And with recipes like lemon basil hummus and blood orange and bourbon cocktails, how could you not love her?E+E: When did you start Rosemarried? What inspired it?Lindsay Strannigan: I started Rosemarried a little over 3 years ago. I've always loved cooking—and writing, for that matter. I had toyed with the idea of starting a food blog, but at the time I only had an old school film camera. For Christmas that year, my husband filled my stocking with all sorts of culinary delights—spices, truffles, aged balsamic vinegar—and at the bottom of the stocking was a brand new digital camera. I had no choice but to start a food blog!E+E: That is so sweet! Where does your love of food and cooking stem from?LS: To be totally honest, I'm not entirely sure. My mom wasn't terribly fond of cooking, and she always jokes that she has no idea where I came from. I was that kid that took apart my sandwiches and rearranged the ingredients to ensure that every bite had equal parts turkey, cheese, lettuce, etc. I've planned (and cooked) our family holiday meals (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter) for as long as I can remember. I suppose you could say I was born this way.E+E: What is your most popular recipe (with readers, friends, family)?LS: With readers, my most popular recipe by far is my Grilled Brussels Sprouts with Whole Grain Mustard. With my friends and family, it's a toss-up between my Sriracha and Blackstrap Molasses Pulled Pork or my Kale and Apple Salad.Photo Courtesy: Lindsey Strannigan E+E: You're a busy lady—how do you manage to put delicious, wholesome food on the table despite having a full schedule?LS: I like to keep a well-stocked pantry so that dinner doesn't always require a trip to the grocery store. Generally, I always have these items on hand: olive oil, black beans, quinoa, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, almonds, walnuts, onions, garlic, and canned tomatoes. Also, I make a lot of pesto, as it's quick, fresh, and delicious (and I've been known to make pesto out of just about anything: beets, radish greens, carrot tops).E+E: When you don't have time to cook, where do you like to grab a meal in Portland?LS: I get takeout from Du's Teriyaki Grill a lot (more than I'd like to admit). It's totally my guilty pleasure. When I dine out, I tend to end up at one of the following places: Smallwares, Tanuki, Dove Vivi, Laurelhurst Market, and St. Jack.E+E: What's your favorite thing about Portland? LS: The quality of life.
