For Electro Soul duo Fly Moon Royalty, there is no such thing as free time. Having met while working side-by-side at Mel's Market in downtown Seattle, vocalist Adra Boo and DJ/Producer/Emcee Action J found they had a comparable music relationship. Since officially joining together in 2010, that relationship has spawned a slew of singles, two EPs and a self-titled album.

Boasting standout tracks like "Lemonade" and my personal favorites like, "Do What You Say" and "DNA," it's clear that Fly Moon Royalty is crafting their own sound. I was able to reach Adra and Action J by phone just before they embark on their first national tour.

Favorite places to hang in Seattle?

AB: "There's this little place called Clever Bottle. The girl who owns it is name Kristin, she's dope and makes a lot of hand crafted things. It's close to the HQ where all this stuff happens."

AJ: "La Cabana used to be fun. Capitol Hill can be good if you're looking to turn up a bit."

Craziest performance story?AB: “We were doing a set at the 2012 SXSW and the power went out. There were practically no mics working, and we had like one power chord giving out just a little sound."AJ: “We kicked the our one monitor up towards the audience. and Adra and I just shared a microphone. And then the track went off for a minute and we just went acapella.”

I love your "Unfinished Business" EP. What was the recording process for that like?

AJ: "We record everything at my apartment. I live in Belltown. One of our processes is I'll just have some beats. Adra will start writing to them. It will be like a hip-hop set up. "Piece of Me" was a whole different track when we came in to record it. Adra had sang it in a completely different way, the tone was all melancholy, but at the last minute we decided to switch things up dramatically and turned it into that shit. We were both super excited, which is the fuel that we use to create everything."

Keep your ears open for this musical power house and be sure to check out their performance this Monday at Music Millennium.
