2019’s Bay Area Rolling Loud, marked the third year of the ‘Miami and Los Angeles famous’ festival in the Bay Area. It’s a major accolade having the festival in Oakland, (for the second year in fact,) and is the only major festival to occur in the greater Pacific Northwest area. The two day long hip-hop extravaganza, boasted three stages, 90+ artist talents, and over 40,000 hyped AF fans. The vibe was rugged, raw, and proud.
Major OG acts such as the Migos, Future, Playboi Carti, YG, Gunna, and Trippie Redd brought highlight power. But there was also a healthy weight of female MCs and other fresh talents like Kodie Shane, Rico Nasty, SkiMask the Slump God, DaBaby, Blueface, Ronny J, Young Bans, and Danileigh. But one of the biggest take aways from Bay Area Rolling Loud, was its attention to a more localized presence; Bay Area’s G-Eazy & Saweetie, Seattle’s Ill Chris, Sacramento’s Mozzy, and more. Good look with the local love, Rolling Loud.
While the event had some first time festival location hiccups, overall the experience was BIG inspiring, and very well executed. The sound was soul shattering. (Good way.) The stage visuals and special effects—massive digital displays, dancers, pyro flares, fireworks —were more than dope. They were f***ing breathtaking. Bay Area Rolling Loud was an anthem of inspiration. The real ass, gritty city of Oakland showed just how much culture it could turn out and turn up. The city is alive.
