UPDATE: Congratulations to Michelle who won last's night Project Runway Season 11 finale! We are so proud!
A Portland fashion designer has once again made the cut to the top three on “Project Runway,” and she’s inviting her fans to shimmy on one of her designs and toast a drink or two at tonight's season finale.
If you want to join Michelle Lesniak Franklin and her viewing party, head on down to Backstage Bar on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. They'll root Franklin on as she competes against the other final two: New Mexico’s Patricia Michaels and West Hollywood’s Stanley Hudson. On the show, Franklin previously wowed judges with fresh, tailored pieces, such as my personal favorite, a chartreuse satin dress. It won the Lord and Taylor challenge and quickly sold out online. The last three designers will send their best looks down the runway on tonight’s two-hour season finale, shot at the Lincoln Center in New York. After a round of critiques, perennial judges Nina Garcia, Zac Posen, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum will select the final winner, who will receive a $100,000 load of cash to start his or her own line, not to mention a boost of fame.Franklin, a designer with an edgy jet-black 'do and a bubbly spirit to match, works out of a quirky Southeast Portland warehouse studio. A few of her spring designs, such as a trapeze racer dress, a feather and leather dress and raincoats are being sold at the boutique Garnish. Franklin is a design team member of the shop, which creates sustainable women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories, all in-house.To celebrate the finale (is this a sign of her victory?), Franklin will host an open viewing party at McMenamins Backstage Bar. Garnish founder Erica Lurie, a big supporter, hopes fans will stop by either of the two locations in Northwest Portland and Northeast Alberta. The two shops will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to style you in Franklin's fashions. We have our bets on Franklin. Who do you have yours on?Written by: Dominique FongFollow @dominiquefong//
