For a quick escape, stroll down to Petite Provence on NE Alberta St. The restaurant, one of four in the area, was created by three friends, all hailing from France. Each restaurant has decadent french cuisine and charming ambiance to match, perfect for a daytime date or breakfast with an old friend. We’ve headed in there on many a Sunday morning and have been greatly comforted by the warm, artisan bread amidst the heaps of to-die-for pastries. Sit down by the windows with a hazelnut brioche (co-owner, Alain Machtelinckx’s favorite!) and bon voyage, you are no longer in Portland.

To see the bakery at work, visit Petite Provence on 4834 SE Division St. The restaurant has a glass door in the dining room to allow diners a chance to witness the magic.  If you fancy a visit to the suburbs, also check out the new location in Lake Oswego. Unlike the other restaurants, La Provence features a ‘Petite Entree’ dinner menu.  Think tapas but French. Voila!
