MAD DECENT BLOCK PARTY

MAD DECENT BLOCK PARTY

When I first saw the lineup for this years Mad Decent Block Party in Eugene, I must admit I had mixed emotions. Although I was highly anticipating listed artists Party Favor, Jai Wolf, Keys N Krates, and Dillon Francis, the choice for the headliner struck me as a bit odd- Tiesto? Where does he fit into this mix? There is no arguing that he is a legend in the dance music scene, yet I couldn't help but question how well his style would fit in with the rest of the artists.Jai Wolf kicked off the day with melodic tunes that you just couldn't resist moving to. Things quickly changed when the dynamic trio Keys N Krates took the stage and threw down a high energy show as the sun was beginning to set. Immediately following was Dillon Francis who took over the crowd and kept the energy flowing. At one point he stopped playing music and his show was seemingly ending early- until he came right back out as his alter ego DJ Hanzel to take the crowd "One Deeper".As Dillon's set came to a close, the anticipation for Tiesto was becoming obvious. I was a little anxious myself, wondering how he was going to follow such an energetic set by Dillon and doubting that he could top it. He came out swinging and did NOT slow down! He played heavy remixes, his trance classics, and even "I Love Tiesto", all of which were greeted with extreme enthusiasm from attendees. I was surprised at how well he was able to work the crowd and how seamlessly he transitioned between styles. All-in-all it was another spectacular year at the Mad Decent Block party, full of great music, vibrant energy and many satisfying surprises.Words and photos by Jake Southardunspecified-42unspecified-33 unspecified-34 unspecified-38  unspecified-35 unnamed-12 unnamed-11unspecified-41 unspecified-40 unnamed-10unspecified-39 unspecified-36 Jai Wolf, Keys N Krates, Dillon Francis, and Tiesto
