East Atlanta has been well known as the mecca of hip hop for years—fame and acclaim spreading like wildfire. Household names like 21 Savage, Outkast, Migos, and a slew of others have consistently dominated not only the Big A, but the industry in general. But it seems like new-comer, Big Havi, has been making a name for himself outside these streets.
Recently, the up and comer dropped an 8-song E.P. titled, “Personal Problems”, boasting features from Commission Records, Derez De’Shon, and Atlanta’s own, Lil Baby. Fresh off of Lil Tjays 12 stop, “True 2 Myself” tour, we’re all watching to see what Big Havi will grind out next.
During his tour stop in Portland, Oregon back in February, we headed backstage to see him perform live. Later that week he graciously allowed us to shoot the shit at Produce Portland, and hit some food spots, then the studio.
Read on for our exclusive interview.
EYES & EDGE: What’s your name?
Big Havi: Aye man, its Big Havi, the motherf*ckin’ GOAT. Stop playin with me.
E&E: Where are you from?
BH: East Atlanta, East Decatur.
E&E: So you’re on tour with Lil Tjay. How’d you get on the tour?
BH: The power of connections. My team, Commission, they got me in the gates. Definitely Ant. Without Ant & Niko, none of this would’ve been possible.
J: We did a little lurking on your IG and saw you’ve been co-signed by Lil Baby, performed alongside DaBaby + Megan The Stallion and more. What is it like getting love from these industry giants?
BH: It’s humbling, because they’re humble. So they humble me even more because I’m trying to get where they are, and hopefully surpass where they are. I didn’t get to meet DaBaby specifically, but Lil Baby gave me some tips and basically, he’s just very relatable. So if I could give an answer, I’d say humbling.
J: Have you enjoyed Portland so far?
BH: Bro, I love Portland. The drip is official, this is the city I’ve spent the most money in so far.
J: We hear you’re dropping an album soon. Do we have a release date? What & who can we expect on the album?
BH: I’m dropping February 7th. I have 2 features on there. Lil Baby of course, and Derez De’shon. It’ll be a 8-song E.P. , so what, we’re 4 days away?
J: What’s in the future for you? What can we expect?
BH: More music, more videos. I also want to be able to find my audience and connect with them.
J: Well thank you for coming out and sitting down with us!
BH: Thank you bro. Like, this dude is 18. I keep saying that sh*t! I’ll keep saying it when you’re 20. Like, this man was 18!
Go pick up his new E.P. , “Personal Problems”, on all platforms!
