FREDFEST

We know that today is Cinco de Mayo, but if you prefer beer over margaritas and birthday cake over tacos, you should check out FredFest, “the littlest big-beer festival in the world -- or at least in Portland”. This is the 8th annual birthday celebration for Fred Eckhardt, a well-loved and respected octogenarian beer writer, at the Hair of the Dog Brewery and Tasting Room. The event will feature beers from approximately 20 breweries (Hair of the Dog, Widmer and Cascade, to name a few). Along with having access to these unique brews, your ticket to FredFest boasts a charitable component. Each year, FredFest serves as a fundraising effort for a nonprofit of Fred’s choice. This year, since the event is volunteer-driven, 100% of net proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Association Oregon/SW Washington chapter and the Hair of the Dog “house” charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind. (Puppies will be in attendance. Puppies!)Tickets, which are $75 in advance (purchase them here), will buy you a tasting glass, light fare, beer, birthday cake and four hours of drinking and storytelling with Fred. A selection of cheeses, chocolates and cereal (yes, cereal) will be on hand for attendees to take part in Fred’s infamous beer-and-food pairings.FredFestSunday, May 5th 2-6PMHair of the Dog Brewery and Tasting Room61 SE Yamhill, Portland OR 97214Written by: Lauren Kodiak
