When we found out the local retail shop, Communion and the always fun drinking spot, Dig A Pony were throwing a fashion show this Thursday, our week got a lot better. EYES + EDGE: Since Communion has opened, the shop has provided the Hawthorne district with a go-to for stylish pieces. How has Communion changed since it first opened?Communion: Actually, I don’t think we’ve changed much at all since we opened. We are proud that we’ve stayed true to our original goal to offer quality, stylish, relevant fashion at affordable prices.
E+E: What 5 things would you want from Communion under your Christmas tree this Holiday season?
C: Oh jeeez…that’s a hard one! We have SO much good stuff this year! But, I certainly would be happy to find a handmade leather iPhone case or waxed tote from local artisans, Red Clouds Collective. I would also love any one of our Limited Edition RAINS jackets, out of Copenhagen; you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of them! I’ve also had my eye on an amazing black-coated denim style jacket from Comune. It is so versatile and looks great on its own or as a layering piece. Lastly, I would love any piece of outerwear from FjallRaven (Sweden)! They are the perfect pieces for the pacific northwest- warm, waxed, and waterproof!
E+E: What sparked the inspiration to collaborate with Dig a Pony for the fashion event on Thursday?C: Last year we were toying with the idea of doing some sort of event with (hometown faves) Pendleton and my store manager, Mandy, thought the aesthetics of DAP would be a good match. Everyone involved had so much fun and the show seemed to be a huge success, we decided to do it again! However, this year, we will be showcasing all of the amazing labels we carry, not just singling one out.E+E: What pieces should we be on the look out for this Thursday? Any sneak peek info?C: Well, we are designating one full segment to our RAINS line, as we are proud to be one of only a handful of stores in the US to carry the line. We love the clean lines, beautiful designs, and amazing fits of these jackets so much that we think they deserve to be showcased on their own!
