If you haven’t been to Johanna Ware’s Smallwares yet, you’ve been missing out. The 2012 Willamette Week Restaurant of the Year runner-up is all about putting a spin on traditional Asian cuisine and reimagining it in innovative ways. Not quite sure what that means? Menu items range from tempura-fried kale salad with candied bacon and fish sauce to chicken lollipops with sriracha mayo. Oh, and get this: pear kimchi!We’d like to think that the pear kimchi would be reason enough to pay a visit to Smallwares, but if you’re still looking for an excuse to make your way over there, Barwares (the aptly named adjoining bar) is hosting a seven-course dinner with sherry pairings on Tuesday, January 29th at 6:30pm. According to Portland Monthly, you can expect dishes like “lobster bisque chawanmushi, seafood in spicy cumin broth, and mushrooms with walnut puree and cardamom paired with sherry and sherry cocktails featuring bottles from producers like Valdespino and Hildago.” Want to secure yourself a spot at this incredibly delicious-sounding dinner?
